The All Sports Clinic will introduce activities to youth who enjoy a variety of sports and recreational games. Youth are taught skills and given the opportunity to compete in a variety of sports such as soccer, basketball, flag football and more while also enjoying some recreational games such as dodgeball, capture the flag, matball and more plus use of the playground during break time. The day will begin with active dynamic stretching and plyometrics to focus on balance and coordination. Coach Valli and Hodsdon make sure our days are high paced and non stop fun for every child! An emphasis of sportsmanship, playing with character and having fun!

Designed for young people in grades 6-8 to be safe when they're home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who is choking, and helpful information like what to do in severe weather.  The lessons are filled with fun activities and role playing exercises. Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice choking and rescue CPR!

Soccer Shots will send you a link to register on their site.  Soccer Shots charges a $35 annual enrollment fee once per year.  If you’ve paid the annual enrollment fee within the last year, the Soccer Shots system will not charge you.  But you will still have to sign their waiver.

Join Mr. Valli, Mrs. Spinney and members of highschool Cross Country team on Monday and Wednesday for Morning Run Club at The Bres. Through games/activites the club will slowly and safely build up to run longer distances while having fun in a welcoming and supportive environment. Everyone will learn the foundations of running while creating goals for the club and themselves. Each child will receive a Running Club t-shirt before the end of the program that will build up to the (optional) Newburyport Thanksgiving 3 mile Turkey Trot.

Come join Mrs. Rescott for some Volleyball! These sessions will give players of all levels and abilities the opportunity to learn and develop skills to play the game of volleyball. Individualized instruction and effective drills will focus on passing, setting, hitting, and serving. Players will benefit from repetition to reinforce skill development and scrimmages to put their skills into action.

Our Instructor/Bresnahan Teacher Katara Harding, has recently started the Bresnahan Community Learning Gardens in the back of the school building and they have been thriving all summer long! She’s very passionate about this project and looks forward to getting kids involved in these gardens and this program is a great way to do so! Katara and the kids will focus on learning about gardening, how to properly water, weed, plant, harvest, etc. This will be an outdoor program with the option to move indoors to her classroom if the weather is inclement.

Come hang with Mr. R-M at the NYS after school piano program this Winter! During our sessions students will engage in musical activities and each student will have their own keyboard station for exploring the world of music through the piano! Topics will include reading rhythmic patterns, identifying notes on the treble clef, increasing our music vocabulary and basic piano technique. We will focus each week on a different composer ranging from baroque to pop! Materials (sheet music) will be provided.

First to Third grade students - get ready to jam out on the ukulele! NBPT Rec Ukulele Jams will be running a spring session after school and another before school. We will learn some background about the ukulele, how to hold and strum the instrument, and some basic chord shapes. Before you know it you will be jamming along to some classics ranging from reggae to pop! Ukuleles and materials will be provided.

April CLASS – 2nd & 3rd grade:Kids Acting for Film and TV This class is an introduction to on-camera acting for our youngest actors! Classwork includes improvisation exercises, short commercial scripts, and short scenes from television/film. Students will learn how to slate for the camera, how to audition with and without a script, and how to answer interview/audition questions so they can WOW the casting director! Grandparents Getting Started: This is a new class offered as part of the babysitting certification we offer through the department.  Safe Sitter has developed a program for people becoming grandparents who want a refresher on choking and cpr for infants.   Taught by certified Safe Sitter® Instructors, participants will learn how to provide the best and safest care for their grandchildren. They will also learn the latest information on how to safely care for infants and children and how to manage the behavior of children of all ages, in addition to life-saving skills such as choking rescue, first aid, and injury management.Learning tips on creating a good relationship from the start as well as learning to set for babysitting will help grandparents enhance their relationship with their children and create lasting memories with their grandchildren.

Everyone will learn the foundations of running while creating goals for the club and themselves. She’s very passionate about this project and looks forward to getting kids involved in these gardens and this program is a great way to do so! Katara and the kids will focus on learning about gardening, how to properly water, weed, plant, harvest, etc. This will be an outdoor program with the option to move indoors to her classroom if the weather is inclement.

Come hang with Mr. R-M at the NYS after school piano program this Winter! During our sessions students will engage in musical activities and each student will have their own keyboard station for exploring the world of music through the piano! Topics will include reading rhythmic patterns, identifying notes on the treble clef, increasing our music vocabulary and basic piano technique. We will focus each week on a different composer ranging from baroque to pop! Materials (sheet music) will be provided.

Come join our Adult Hiking Program led by experienced hiker Cathy Hill. We welcome people of all abilities but it is required that you fill out our question form so that we have the necessary information for our instructor to make every hike/trail walk a safe, successful and pleasurable experience for everyone. We will meet at the Former Park and Ride in Newburyport 150 Storey Ave. and return there after the hike. Below are the descriptions of the hikes and local trail walks will be going on this year. Be on the lookout for possible added hikes!Newburyport Hiking Club, 2024 seasonApril 11 (Thursday) Rescheduled to April 16th- –Easy to Moderate hikes- Mount Agamenticus -York, Maine (drive time 45 minutes from Newburyport)             Ring Trail Loop-1.9 mi. Elevation gain 298 ftLet’s  start out close by. If you have hiked this one before that’s ok. Have you heard of Trail Tracing? It is when hikers hike all the trails in an area. Let’s get together and see if we can hike some or more of the trails on Mount Agamenticus with its beautiful views at the top. May 14 (Tuesday)  –Easy to Moderate hikes- Castle in the Clouds -Moultonborough, NH. (drive time 90 minutes from Newburyport)Turtleback Mountain and Brook Walk Trail Loop -Trail is 1.8 mi Elevation gain 370 ft The Brook Walk leads to viewpoints for seven spectacular waterfalls, with much of the trail following the route that led visitors to these points more than a century ago. Signs along the trail provide descriptions of the waterfalls and include old images, providing an idea of how these falls appeared to Ossipee Mountain Park visitors many years ago. This interpretive trail takes you to seven waterfalls, including the Twin Falls, Whittier Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Falls of Song: a 40 ft plunge waterfall! June 3 (Monday)- Easy to Moderate hike -Crotched Mountain-Greenfield, NH  (drive time 90 minutes from Newburyport)Crotched Mountain via Shannon’s Trail Trail is 3.2 mi Elevation gain 833 ft Head out on this 3.2-mile out-and-back trail near Greenfield, New Hampshire. Takes an average of 1 h 47 min to complete. This is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are March through October.  July  23 (Tuesday) Moderate hike Purgatory Falls-Mount Vernon, NH (drive time 75 minutes from Newburyport)Purgatory Falls Loop Trail is 3.8 mi  Elevation gain 524 ft This 3.8-mile loop trail. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, This is great for hiking and walking and you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. Katara and the kids will focus on learning about gardening, how to properly water, weed, plant, harvest, etc. This will be an outdoor program with the option to move indoors to her classroom if the weather is inclement.

Come join our Adult Hiking Program led by experienced hiker Cathy Hill. We welcome people of all abilities but it is required that you fill out our question form so that we have the necessary information for our instructor to make every hike/trail walk a safe, successful and pleasurable experience for everyone. We will meet at the Former Park and Ride in Newburyport 150 Storey Ave. and return there after the hike. Below are the descriptions of the hikes and local trail walks will be going on this year. Be on the lookout for possible added hikes!Newburyport Hiking Club, 2024 seasonApril 11 (Thursday) Rescheduled to April 16th- –Easy to Moderate hikes- Mount Agamenticus -York, Maine (drive time 45 minutes from Newburyport)             Ring Trail Loop-1.9 mi. Elevation gain 298 ftLet’s  start out close by. If you have hiked this one before that’s ok. Have you heard of Trail Tracing? It is when hikers hike all the trails in an area. Let’s get together and see if we can hike some or more of the trails on Mount Agamenticus with its beautiful views at the top. May 14 (Tuesday)  –Easy to Moderate hikes- Castle in the Clouds -Moultonborough, NH. (drive time 90 minutes from Newburyport)Turtleback Mountain and Brook Walk Trail Loop -Trail is 1.8 mi Elevation gain 370 ft The Brook Walk leads to viewpoints for seven spectacular waterfalls, with much of the trail following the route that led visitors to these points more than a century ago. Signs along the trail provide descriptions of the waterfalls and include old images, providing an idea of how these falls appeared to Ossipee Mountain Park visitors many years ago. This interpretive trail takes you to seven waterfalls, including the Twin Falls, Whittier Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Falls of Song: a 40 ft plunge waterfall! June 3 (Monday)- Easy to Moderate hike -Crotched Mountain-Greenfield, NH  (drive time 90 minutes from Newburyport)Crotched Mountain via Shannon’s Trail Trail is 3.2 mi Elevation gain 833 ft Head out on this 3.2-mile out-and-back trail near Greenfield, New Hampshire. Takes an average of 1 h 47 min to complete. This is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The best times to visit this trail are March through October.  July  23 (Tuesday) Moderate hike Purgatory Falls-Mount Vernon, NH (drive time 75 minutes from Newburyport)Purgatory Falls Loop Trail is 3.8 mi  Elevation gain 524 ft This 3.8-mile loop trail. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, This is great for hiking and walking and you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are March through October Local Walks/Hikes First Tuesdays of the month April 2, 2024  Trails at Willowdale State Forest, Ipswich, MA May 7, 2024   Trails at Halibut Point State Forest, Rockport, MA June 4, 2024   Trails at Harold Parker State Forest, North Andover, MA July 2, 2024    Trails at Dogtown, Gloucester, MA

Our Instructor/Bresnahan Teacher Katara Harding, has recently started the Bresnahan Community Learning Gardens in the back of the school building and they have been thriving all summer long! She’s very passionate about this project and looks forward to getting kids involved in these gardens and this program is a great way to do so! Katara and the kids will focus on learning about gardening, how to properly water, weed, plant, harvest, etc. This will be an outdoor program with the option to move indoors to her classroom if the weather is inclement.

First to Third grade students - get ready to jam out on the ukulele! NBPT Rec Ukulele Jams will be running a spring session after school and another before school. We will learn some background about the ukulele, how to hold and strum the instrument, and some basic chord shapes. Before you know it you will be jamming along to some classics ranging from reggae to pop! Ukuleles and materials will be provided.

Everyone will learn the foundations of running while creating goals for the club and themselves. Each child will receive a Running Club t-shirt before the end of the program that will build up to the (optional) Newburyport Thanksgiving 3 mile Turkey Trot.

April CLASS – 2nd & 3rd grade:Kids Acting for Film and TV This class is an introduction to on-camera acting for our youngest actors! Classwork includes improvisation exercises, short commercial scripts, and short scenes from television/film. Students will learn how to slate for the camera, how to audition with and without a script, and how to answer interview/audition questions so they can WOW the casting director! Soccer Shots North Shore and New Hampshire is an engaging children’s soccer program with a focus on character development. Our caring team positively impacts children’s lives on and off the field through best-in-class coaching, communication and curriculum. Our coaches are the best-trained in the business. Our expert-approved curriculum is age-appropriate and aligns with childhood education standards. In addition, we provide an exceptional customer experience and ongoing communication with parents.You must also register with Soccer Shots.  After you register on the Newburyport Recreation Department website. Soccer Shots will send you a link to register on their site.  Soccer Shots charges a $35 annual enrollment fee once per year.  If you’ve paid the annual enrollment fee within the last year, the Soccer Shots system will not charge you.  But you will still have to sign their waiver.

Soccer Shots North Shore and New Hampshire is an engaging children’s soccer program with a focus on character development. Our caring team positively impacts children’s lives on and off the field through best-in-class coaching, communication and curriculum. Our coaches are the best-trained in the business. Our expert-approved curriculum is age-appropriate and aligns with childhood education standards. In addition, we provide an exceptional customer experience and ongoing communication with parents.You must also register with Soccer Shots.  After you register on the Newburyport Recreation Department website. Soccer Shots will send you a link to register on their site.  Soccer Shots charges a $35 annual enrollment fee once per year.  If you’ve paid the annual enrollment fee within the last year, the Soccer Shots system will not charge you.  But you will still have to sign their waiver.

Join us at Cushing Park for the NYS Big Wheels 500!Participants ages 2-5 years old will race around our track on Big Wheel bicycles, dodging obstacles along the way, while trying to win the top spot on the podium! Participants will need to bring their own helmet, Big Wheel bicycles will be provided for the race. During the event we will award prizes for Craziest Helmet Designs so get those helmets ready for the big day!

Join us for a fun 8-week sports program for children of all abilities to learn the fundamentals of Soccer and Baseball! Classes are non-competitive and are perfect for beginners or for children who are looking for small class sizes taught by well-trained coaches. Inclyousion Sports provides all equipment and children only need to bring water and wear comfortable clothes and shoes. This program is designed for children with and without disabilities to learn and play together. Skill building is modified to each child’s experience level.  Inclyousion Sports provides inclusive sports enrichment programs to children, using innovative behavioral methods to teach sports, fitness and social skills. Programs are designed by physical education, behavioral, and inclusion experts to introduce all children to a variety of sports through a series of lessons focused on skill building. Let’s play Ultimate (Frisbee) Ultimate (Frisbee) is an exciting, fun, non-contact team sport that mixes elements of soccer, basketball, and American football into one high energy game. Top level Ultimate players require an unmatched degree of speed, stamina, and agility, yet the simplicity of the rules means it is easy and fun for newcomers to pick up. The sport embraces the philosophy of “Spirit of the Game “which means the sport is self-refereed, emphasizing mutual respect between players.Ultimate is open to all levels of players introducing both the fundamentals as well as opportunities to compete in games.  All sessions will be in Newburyport with potential games with other communities.
